Digestive System Inquiry

Imagine if their was something wrong with your digestive system. Now imagine if the doctor prescribed you the wrong medication? In this case, you're in a lose lose situation. For nearly 100 years doctors wrongly prescribed medication for peptic ulcers. Peptic ulcers are painful sores on the lining of the esophagus, stomach or small intestine. Physicians thought the source of this problem was spicy food or stress so they prescribed treatment which was rest and a tedious diet. But then in 1982, two Australian researchers found out what the real solution was; it was the bacterium helicobacter pylori which burrowed into the stomachs mucosal lining. After all the research and recordings, doctors came up with a better alternative prescription which was antibiotics. The two Australian researchers, Robin Warren and Barry Marshall were later awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 2005.
